What is a Seed?

The top definitions of ‘seed’ according to Merriam-Webster online are:

  • a propagative plant or animal structure
  • the descendants of a person, animal, or plant
  • a source of development or growth

When we use the word “seed” it’s understood to signify building blocks. In all contexts, whether plants, animals, people, thoughts, or great ideas, different types of seeds are vital for sustainability, adaptability and innovation.  We are encouraged to “eat the rainbow” as every plant (and thus, a different seed) provides a unique blend of vitamins and minerals.  Different seed varieties of one fruit ensure crop resilience.  Specific types of plants grow in various regions across the globe. Viticulture studies the cultivation of grapes alone.  Wine from Burgundy versus Illinois – yeah, there’s a difference!

Every genre of music, poetry, and art features the power of seeds. (“Sowing the Seeds of Love” – Tears for Fears – yes, I’m an 80’s girl) The Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery had an entire  exhibition a couple of years ago titled “Seedscapes: Future-Proofing Nature”.

Every “seed” has a unique purpose waiting to be nourished.

Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seed you plant.

-Robert Louis Stevenson

Think twice before you speak, because your words and influence will plant the seed of either success or failure in the mind of another.

Napoleon Hill

It is from this lens that I created Bright Blue Seeds to help shift the narrative about the bright, sensitive and creative souls that live in our hurried, high stimulation, LOUD world (cue Kenny Chesney’s song “Noise” here). Think about just one of your days – does it feel like this?

Now consider you are taking in the sites, sounds, smells, tactile inputs, plus all of the feelings throughout each space at a deeper level. (not all HSP’s are highly sensitive in all areas, but some are).  Overwhelming??  Yeah… just a tad.

Our modern society acknowledges and rewards assertive achievement while those that don’t thrive in that environment feel misunderstood and labelled for their deficits, which so often is not being able to operate in the chaos as described above.  Once HSP’s bloom, though, we delight in their discoveries, harmonize in their music, and honor their accomplishments.

HSP’s are creative, out of the box thinkers that have amazing potential to contribute to the world – if we only recognize and give them the space to grow.

Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seed you plant.

Once in a golden hour, I cast to earth a seed, And up there grew a flower, That others called a weed.

Alfred Lord Tennyson
